CRAFT and the Environment
The quality of CRAFT depends, to a large degree, on whether
we can reduce our impact on the environment. This means auditing the wood, substrates and methods used to make
every CRAFT floor.
Sustainable Manufacturing Principles
The management of Creative At Home and the entire CRAFT team is committed to the principles of sustainable manufacturing including responsible use of natural resources, and taking responsibility for the entire lifecycle of our products at our buildings and facilities.
CRAFT is unique in that all of our flooring has been SFI Chain of Custody certified, guaranteeing that our engineered wood core comes only from responsibly managed, sustainable sources.
During manufacturing, our facility has a strict policy of preventing environmental pollution. We maintain stringent procedures regarding the release of air-borne contaminants into the environment as well as processing 100% of liquid-based materials at an industrial waste treatment facility. Our shop works constantly to improve adherence to the 3 Rs; Reducing waste wherever possible by minimizing unnecessary packaging (without compromising product quality); Reusing potential waste material (such as trim ends and ripping waste) by creatively developing it into a better engineered product; and by Recycling all other materials and using recyclable packaging materials whenever possible.
Contributions to healthy living environment
For the consumer, CRAFT acknowledges that indoor air quality is of utmost importance. We have a strict policy of only using coatings, stains and glues that have a proven track record of product safety and the lowest levels of VOCs possible. For example, we use a 100% Zero-Formaldehyde, F Four Star glue imported from Japan, the country that has the world’s strictest standards with respect to formaldehyde emissions from finished wood products.
Our commitment to making products that contribute to a healthy living environment is evidenced by the fact that all of our products have been third-party certified by Underwriters Laboratories to the level of GREENGUARD Gold, demonstrating the most stringent level of low emissions available. Creative At Home and the CRAFT team will continue to uphold our commitment to the environment as we continue to be a leader in the crafting of world-class handmade wood flooring.
The EARNING of LEED POINTS
CRAFT’s SFI Chain of Custody and GREENGUARD Gold certifications means that a CRAFT floor can contribute to the earning of LEED points.
CRAFT’S PEFC/SFI COMMITMENT
Creative At Home Inc, the exclusive manufacturer of CRAFT Artisan Wood Floors and it’s factory, Creative Wood Products International is committed to implementing and maintaining the chain of custody requirements in accordance with the PEFC and SFI standards.
CONCERNING ‘GREENWASHING’ IN THE MARKETPLACE
In the flooring industry and beyond, companies can make a wide variety of unfounded claims about how healthy or environmentally sound a product is, and since most consumers aren’t scientists, they have a limited ability to test these “greenwashing” claims.
To address this problem, responsible manufactures of environmental integrity often choose to have their products tested by select, trusted, organizations who are free from ties to the marketplace. This can provide the end user with facts that cut thru the empty claims served up as marketing spin with the mission to sell products. Facts that can be used to protect from damage to their health (VOC’s, etc.) and the environment at large.
