We use the term VintageCRAFT to describe the artisanal woodworking techniques employed by our craftsmen to create the rich time-worn effect found in all of our textured collections: Castillo Plank, Legacy Plank, Reclaimed Heart Pine, and Lakeside Plank.
OUR ARTISANS LOVE THE FEEL OF REAL WOOD, AND THEY TAKE PRIDE IN USING THE VARIOUS HAND TECHNIQUES OF VINTAGECRAFT TO ADD TEXTURE AND DISTINCTIVENESS TO EVERY PLANK THAT GOES INTO A CRAFT FLOOR.
Our artisans use a multitude of VintageCRAFT techniques, and through the various hand texturing and surface enhancement processes they add texture and distinctiveness, transforming planks of wood into stunningly beautiful boards.
The surface of each plank is planed, by hand, the same way that woodworking craftsmen did centuries ago in an effort to even out the crudely milled planks that were the norm for floors in times past.
Knots and seasoning checks are expertly filled by our artisans. By properly sealing these up, this process allows us to retain the organic elements that give wood its natural and authentic character.
Special tools are then used to abrasively brush the wood’s textured surface, accentuating its natural grain pattern and making it pop.
And finally, each plank is individually hand sanded, the same way as its done when making fine furniture, so that the wood will look its absolute best once the final surface treatment is applied.
These techniques are the hallmark of a serious woodworking artisan, and they are what defines VintageCRAFT.
Floors with VintageCRAFT texturing have a unique sense of history and style that sets them apart from other floors. Homeowners love living on a floor with true hand texturing, knowing that a floor with such authenticity and originality adds real value to their investment.
There is another very practical reason for wanting a floor with VintageCRAFT texturing: a rich and authentic texture can go a long way toward hiding the use and abuse that comes about from active families with kids, pets and anything else.
Perhaps the most common compliment that floors with VintageCRAFT receive, is about how well they hold up to the rigors of a busy household and still look great, even after years of being lived on.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VINTAGECRAFT
Active households can put the durability of any hand scraped hardwood floor to the test. Kids and pets (especially when they play together!) can be a real challenge for any floor, and when things get rough, dents and scratches are inevitable. Thankfully, a floor with VintageCRAFT texturing makes it hard, if not impossible to see most of the dents and scratches caused when things get out of hand. VintageCRAFT floors have uniquely textured surfaces that, due to the three-dimensional nature of the texturing, scatters light much more than a traditional non-textured floor and making it harder to notice the small imperfections that come with an active lifestyle.
Floors with VintageCRAFT texturing are suitable for almost any design style. While it might be more common to find a heavily textured floor in rustic or rural themed homes, a floor with VintageCRAFT texturing offers a tactile connection to wood that is naturally authentic, and that increasing numbers of design professionals are being drawn to and are incorporating into modern and contemporary themes.
CRAFT goes to great lengths to make sure that all accessories are a perfect match for every floor. The artisans that make CRAFT’s floors are the same artisans that make all of the accessories, and CRAFT takes pride in guaranteeing that the exact same wood species, stains, glazings, finishings and texturing techniques are used for the accessories as those used to make each of the floors.
In order to achieve the unique and authentic texture of a VintageCRAFT floor, CRAFT’s artisans use a wide variety of hand tools, some powered by electricity, and others powered only by muscle. The multitude of steps that go into a VintageCRAFT texture, and the fact that everything is done by hand by genuine artisans, means that a floor with VintageCRAFT will have a truly random texture and not exhibit any of the unnatural qualities found in much of the machine distressed flooring common from other flooring manufacturers.
