Adventure-Ready Haven for an active Family of 4, May 2023

CRAFT met with designer Lynn Burkart and the dream-team from Isabey Interiors to discuss their latest project: a custom-built modern residence that goes beyond the traditional family home. Situated in outdoorsy Kamloops BC, the home is designed with adventure in mind, catering to an active family of four.

Unique features include a functional rock climbing wall and a bike repair room. A CRAFT White Oak Teramo floor adds warmth and coziness to the spacious interior. Geometric patterns and medieval walnut interior doors add further depth and dynamism to this distinctive residence.

The entryway harmoniously combines natural stone from the exterior with the White Oak CRAFT Teramo floor, establishing the organic and stylish ambiance of the home.

Inset artwork, an oversized organic wood and glass lighting fixture, and a custom iron planter add creative touches.

Q: What where the homeowners’ top priorities for their new custom home?

A: The homeowners’ wanted it to be their forever, custom home. They sought a timeless space that would suit their active lifestyle. Working closely with them, we created a home that exudes a natural and distinctive aesthetic, with features to cater to their family-oriented and fun-filled way of life.

Q: What were the preferences and considerations in choosing materials and finishes for this project?

A: There was a strong preference for natural materials, which resonated throughout the entire project. The kitchen millwork was constructed using natural blonde rift oak that matches CRAFT’s hardwood floor. This choice serves as the cornerstone of the home’s inviting and natural aesthetic.

A relaxing family nest for a yoga or reading escape retreats to a third-floor deck, where you can unwind in a hot tub amidst the surrounding treetop beauty of ponderosa pines, Douglas firs, and spruces.

In keeping with the adventurous spirit that defines the home is the 4-story tall climbing wall with climbing belay. This “funky contemporary” flair has garnered recognition and home awards from the CHBA.

The bike room and workshop feature a bike shower, workbench, bike hangers, bike wheel lighting fixtures, and a feature wall inspired by an Italian racing jersey.
