Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is a distinguished, forward-thinking national law firm with a 150-year legacy. In designing their new Denver workspace, the firm’s leadership sought an environment that would attract top talent and reflect a modern “mountain metropolitan” sensibility.

SCB, a renowned architectural and interior design firm with over 90 years of experience, brought this vision to life with a dynamic, hospitality-inspired office featuring flexible, inviting spaces—grounded in the natural warmth of CRAFT’s Norcia wide-plank white oak floors.

From reception to the shared lounge, every space blends modern finishes with subtle nods to the Rockies. A striking dark stone volume with brushed-steel signage welcomes guests, setting the stage for a law office that balances sophistication with the warmth of a boutique hotel lobby.

SCB DESIGN TEAM: “We wanted the atmosphere to channel Michael Best’s progressive nature, while still paying homage to the firm’s rich law tradition. The right balance of natural materials and modern detailing was key.”

At the heart of the workplace, the shared lounge serves as a versatile hub for staff lunches and firm events. Movable floor-to-ceiling glass partitions offer flexibility, while fabric-wrapped panels frame a cozy banquette—nestled between the reception’s dark stone wall and seating for collaboration or after-hours gatherings.

SCB DESIGN TEAM: “We selected the light, neutral palette of the Norcia floor to ensure that bold leather accents, textured steel elements, and oxblood colour references to Colorado’s Red Rocks all stand out.”

For this established law firm, SCB’s design blends regional inspiration with client identity. Opting for bright, textured materials over traditional dark finishes, SCB chose Norcia to embody Colorado’s “mountain modern” spirit. Its soft grey-beige tones provide a refined contrast to bold stone, steel, and maroon accents.

SCB DESIGN TEAM: “We wanted a wood floor that felt light and uplifting, yet still carried the strength and authenticity worthy of the firm’s heritage. Norcia hit all the right notes.”
