EARTHY VINEYARD PLANK OAK FINDS A FOREVER HOME, MAY 2021

CRAFT is pleased to share the details of a newly built home, designed for a couple with family members who visit often. Architecture and design were fully tailored to offer a serene, simple sanctuary. 

Situated within an historic neighborhood in Langley, BC with deep English roots, the home’s exterior acknowledges a sense of tradition with a steep gable roof, a material palette of stone and brick, Longboard soffits (wood-lookalike aluminum), and welcoming rounded forms including a white oak front door with a porthole-style insert.

Upon entering the home, visitors are greeted to an elegant, bright space accented with natural white oak features in the form of architectural beam work, interior doors, and CRAFT’s wideplank Gravina floor showcasing long planks of character white oak with historically inspired artisanal texturing.

The home’s new owners love the way all the interior design elements are brought together by the floor. “We were thrilled with Lindan Homes’s specification of CRAFT floors throughout our home. We selected GRAVINA on the top two floors and TERAMO in the basement.”

Soaring 19′ ceilings, an abundance of large windows, and the soft ambient light from open-air soffits built into the wood beams create a living space that feels immersed in, and connected to, the surrounding natural environment.

CRAFT’s white oak Gravina, with its textural earthy base, warms up the space and creates a lively organic element that contrasts beautifully with the home’s white walls.

Featured throughout the home are simple, tasteful accents and elements crafted from wicker, wood, stone and metal that further the home’s intimate, organic style.

INDUSTRY ACCOLADES:

“Take Me To Church”, as the home has been dubbed by the builder, Lindan Homes, has already won in three categories in the Canadian Home Builders, Fraser Valley 2021 Awards: Custom Home Over $1,000,000, Best New Kitchen Over $65,000 and Best Any Room. The home has also been nominated for a Georgie Award for Best Master Suite Up To $100,000.

Dark surfaces juxtapose the home’s warmer tactile elements, adding dimension. This includes matte-black faucets and finishings such as the window frames and door hardware used thematically throughout the house, and the kitchen’s dark blue-on-white millwork.

A clever and compact spice-kitchen –accessed via French doors concealed as millwork is situated between integrated Sub-Zero fridge and freezer.

Behind the scenes in the making CRAFT’s Gravina flooring:

GRAVINA is a Natural Grade White Oak floor. Planks are specially selected to limit excessive colour variation while highlighting some of the wood’s natural characteristics. Gravina floors are mostly pure heartwood boards with the occasional small sliver of sapwood.

With the aesthetic of a genuine timeworn floor boasting an historical and naturally aged patina, Gravina’s surface features distressing and hand texturing, all done by CRAFT’s artisans.

All CRAFT floors are approved for installation over radiant floor heating systems, which are used throughout this home. The beautifully textured white oak of a Gravina  floor, gently warmed by radiant heating, make for an amazing experience underfoot. 

Vaulted master-on-the-main meets the homeowner’s criteria for future ageing-in-place.

A raised fireplace features hand-painted Mexican tile and is positioned for in-bed viewing for extra-coziness during the winter months.
