Some 8’ boxes of CRAFT flooring may contain 1’ boards, but these should not, under any circumstances, be installed in the middle of a floor. For these 1’ pieces, we recommend:
Craft Floor recommends that installers use the 1’ boards found in some 8’ boxes as starter pieces at the beginning or end of rows, or in areas where they cannot be easily seen, such as closets or under cabinetry. These 1’ lengths are included because Craft Floor combines 7’ finished planks with 1’ pieces to fit perfectly into standard 8’ boxes, maximizing average plank length while accommodating lumber limitations. Craft Floor strives to limit these combinations, typically finding at least one 7’ + 1’ combination per box, with a maximum of two rows per box.
• That they be used as starter pieces at the beginning or end of rows
• That they be used in areas where they cannot be easily seen, such as in closets or under cabinetry
• In the event that an installation involves large spaces without closets, it is recommended that any excess 1’ pieces not be installed and considered as part of the standard 5% waste
