CRAFT homeowners invited us to visit their new oceanfront home perched at the entrance to BC’s Howe Sound. Their vision was to create unique, comfortable living spaces while taking advantage of their beautiful view.
They followed a contemporary design path but wanted the warmth of traditional and natural materials.
Orissa
Zen Collection floor finds a home aside Howe Sound vistas. Sep. 2019
Q: How do you feel about the use and role of wood in the home?
A: Using real wood in our home adds warmth and durability. The flooring was the first material we choose for our new home. We were looking for a unique product that was interesting, had depth, and was contemporary in design.
Q: Tell us about your Orissa floor, what aspects are you appreciating most about your Hickory floor?
A: We love the variation of colours within the floor including the sapwood, the light natural tones, and the overall warmth and the uniqueness.
Q: Please tell us about your ‘first meeting’ with your floor to be.
A: We first met CRAFT Floors at the Vancouver IDS design show where we were impressed with the beauty of their Hickory, and their colour range. Our next meeting with CRAFT was to decide on lighter colour tones.
We love our Orissa for its prominent grey and sapwood tones, we really appreciate that it maintains some of the brown tones in the overall heartwood base of the floor.
Once we decided on Orissa, we chose all of our other materials in colours complimentary to the wood, to blend everything together. For example, the grey tones and sophisticated long lines in the floor allowed us to incorporate a more contemporary style with our kitchen islands.
We also love that the beige/brown tones from the floor made it possible for us to bring more warmth into the house by way of Walnut cabinetry elsewhere in the house.
Q: We love so many of the details of your design like the custom clear counter legs, and your art; what are your favourite features?
A: Our favourite home feature is our beautiful view. We’re also really happy with the design of the kitchen with the custom islands and our Onyx Stone.
Our top priorities were quality in the products we were choosing. We wanted to create a warm inviting home that is unpretentious.
