reimagined Kitchen embraces long lines and a sophisticated oak floor

Joanna Smeeth, Partner at Alair Homes Peterborough spoke with CRAFT about her design goals for this full kitchen Reno.

The family worked with Joanne to inject light, function and space into the dated layout of their kitchen. The reimagined space is beautifully lined and subtly coloured with an aura of sophisticated natural warmth.

The wide, long, premium select character White Oak hardwood is key to elevating the design. Both the floor, and the long, White Oak floating shelves are crucial to making the long kitchen length and narrow space feel right.

Q: Please describe the goals/purpose your design plan for the reconfiguration of this 25+ year old kitchen renovation.

A: The home’s original floorplan dates to a time when open concepts weren’t common. This created a challenging living space for the homeowners and their young family. The parents are now able to be close to the kids in a calming open space!

The homeowners great taste comes through in the reno –Alair and the homeowners worked hard to find just the right grey/green cabinet colour that worked with the natural ambient lighting, chic fixtures and the luxurious Aberdeen White Oak hardwood.

Joanne: As you see in these before photo’s, the main floor featured double or single openings to very sectioned off, very small spaces.

Because the dining and living room now open with the kitchen, the new functional open space allows for the right amount of connection or independence through all the moments of family living.

Q: Tell us about the role of flooring in your opinion. And also your level of satisfaction with CRAFT’s Aberdeen, from a design pro’s perspective.

A: Flooring is one of those things that can make or break a space. The fuming process tailored for the Aberdeen colour (responsible for it’s uniquely natural grey-brown colour characteristic) is highly complimentary to the fixtures and the grey-green cabinets. Dimensionally, the ultra long and wide, premium select character planks offer a lot of presence, and complete the aura of natural sophisticated warmth.
